While there is significant compensation for surrogacy, it should not be the main source of income. We currently do not accept candidates receiving government assistance. This includes Medicaid – MediCal, welfare or TNAF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (food stamps and WIC), Earned Income Tax Credit, or Housing Assistance.

We do not accept women under the age of 23. Often, women of this age may lack emotional or practical maturity, physical maturity and/or haven’t had a previous successful pregnancy and raised that child in their own home.
Women over the age of 40 are at increased risk for complications during pregnancy and delivery.

According to the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), surrogates must have delivered at least 1 live birth without complications and parented that child. However, surrogates cannot have had more than 5 vaginal deliveries or 4 cesarean sections; 3 cesarean sections are considered on a case-by-case basis.

We cannot accept candidates who have a history of alcohol or drug abuse. We also cannot accept surrogates who have smoked/vaped or used marijuana within the past 6 months.

VIVO Surrogacy performs criminal background checks on the surrogate, spouse/partner, and anyone 18 years or older residing with the surrogate (or on the same property). Misdemeanors do not always necessarily disqualify a surrogate, but are considered on a case-by-case basis. We perform DMV checks on the surrogate and (if applicable) her surrogate/spouse.

Unfortunately, VIVO Surrogacy is not currently accepting surrogates residing in the following states: Alaska, Arizona, Iowa, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New York, Tennessee, Virginia, or Wyoming. You do not need to reside in California BUT surrogates must live in a state that is “surrogate friendly.” or a state supportive of surrogacy agreements.
